During the ten years of his public display of loyalty people began to speak about him, visit him and feed him. Eventually nature took its course when Hachiko passed away in 1935. Interestingly enough scientists were able to back in 2011 and determine the cause of death for Hachiko. What they found was quite fascinating because he had cancer and worms.

So even through his discomfort he stayed devoted to his routine just simply hoping to see his master one more time. In honor of the legend a statue was erected at the Shibuya station. It’s a sweet reminder that once upon a time there’s was this dog named Hachiko… A story that will live on forever in Japan is now being shared with the world.
