Perhaps he thought he would blend in and they wouldn’t notice him. After that display, there was no way they could leave the skinny grey gelding without frostbitten ears at the kill shelter and they were lucky that there was just enough extra from donations to buy him.
Bubbles now lives at Becky’s Hope happily. People make the trip to see the horse who rescued himself and he loves the attention.
