Imagine Deputy Hammell’s confusion since Ruger can’t talk and couldn’t explain to the officer what he needed, but he was happy to sit and wait for the human to figure it out even if it took all night. Ruger was wearing a tag, so the deputy was able to locate the owner’s address as the lab slept peacefully in his warm passenger seat.
It turned out that Ruger had been missing from his California home all day and somehow knew the officer would help him get back.
