Roxy, Edith, Rosie, Jake, and Mia are a big family composed of one cat and four dogs who have always been very loyal to each other, as well as their parents. But, it was life, and so the dynamic began to change for them. The animals knew something was going on throughout Kasey’s pregnancy and kept an extra-close watch over her. When the big day came, the excited parents had to rush out and to the hospital which left the pets a little worried at their being gone for a few days so they were eager to see their dad when he came home with a new hospital blanket. They all smelled the blanket and seemed to understand what happened. When the happy couple finally arrived with a new baby in tow, the animals seemed like they already knew he would be coming home and immediately showed love and respect towards the new baby, Sonny. Each pet adores Sonny and shows it in different way. Mia, who is the only cat in the house, always sits higher than the baby so she can keep a sharp eye on him. Roxy, the oldest dog, loves to snuggle with Sonny at nap time. Edith and Rosie are on cry patrol. They get upset when the baby cries and won’t settle down unit mom or dad has come to take care of him. Jack, the only boy, is the feeding and diaper changing assistant and never misses one of them. Last month, Giovanni had a heart attack while out walking his dog Nancy. The paramedics got there in time to resuscitate the seventy-three-year-old man. And Nancy sat, heartbroken, while the ambulance loaded him up and took him away. At the hospital, Giovanni fell into a coma while Nancy waited for him at his daughter’s house. She kept watch on the door hoping he would return soon. The man’s daughter, Deborah, learned that the hospital allowed pets to be reunited with their humans so Deborah loaded Nancy up to see Giovanni. When Nancy was placed on the bed with Giovanni, his entire body began to stir as if he were excited to see Nancy, who eagerly wagged her tail. She laid beside him and licked his face while Deborah noticed his expression change to being very sad and somber, as if crying. Deborah believes that he was showing that he was glad to know that Nancy is okay and taken care of, and that he now feels as if he has said his good-byes. Deborah says that he had seemed much more peaceful and calm since Nancy’s visit. Nancy has also been happier. I’d bet that the two see each other any more times since it helped them both so much. The hospital’s coordinator for pet visits says that Giovanni and Nancy’s responses are exactly why the program was created “because the human-animal bond in one of pure and inseparable love.†Share away, people. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has announced that it will be shutting its doors for good. May 7th will be the last circus for the group who has been in the spotlight in recent years for its animal welfare issues from cruel training practices to untimely baby elephant deaths. Back in 2004, a young lion died after being left in a hot train car with no water and, more recently, in 2014, the circus refused to retire a circus elephant who was shot in the neck during a drive-by shooting. In fact, the circus has been on the receiving end of more than fifty animal welfare citations since 1993. In 2015, the show agreed to start phasing out the elephant performances and they did their last show early last year. Many people were unhappy when the elephants were retired into Florida’s Center for Elephant Conservation, which is where the circus bred and trained the elephants. An investigation last fall showed that, while the circus was still using big cats, they were severely mistreated as well. The tiger spent days at a time in tiny pens in a parking lot with no room to run and, despite being solitary animals, were forced many to a cage resulting in fights. Some of the cats were covered in scars, some were obese, and some had cracked paws and big-time joint injuries from living on concrete. It’s still unclear what will happen to all of the animals but if you want to help, you can donate to the Performing Animal Welfare Society. Share away, people.
