When photographer Angelo Merendino first met his wife Jennifer, he instantly knew she was the woman he’s going to marry. True enough, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held at New York’s Central Park not long after. But, only just five months after their wedding, they received the most devastating news ever.
Jennifer was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I remember the exact moment… Jen’s voice and the numb feeling that enveloped me. That feeling has never left,” recounts Angelo on his blog. “I’ll also never forget how we looked into each other’s eyes and held each other’s hands. ‘We are together, we’ll be ok,'” he adds.
Following that, Angelo decided to chronicle his wife’s battle with cancer by taking photographs of her. He wanted to show the reality of cancer and how it has affected the life of his beloved wife.
“By sharing our story, our love story, something beautiful has begun to grow out of something so horrible and unfair. If we don’t share our experiences how can we learn, grow and survive?” says Angelo.
