Athena is a cat that was born into a massive North Carolina puppy mill. Because the state has no puppy mill regulations in effect, the owner of the mill was able to run one despite her previous arrest and conviction on animal cruelty charges.
Athena was confined to a house that was overrun by cats and dogs in disgusting cages. Her little eyes were so swollen and sad that she looked as if she was severely depressed.
