Noni Boen gets sad text messages and pictures of abandoned animals that tug on her heartstrings every day. And she always answers them. Noni works with several rescues in the San Bernardino, California area and they call her when the dumped-off animals are too young, old, sick, or helpless to be left in a shelter. Noni is on the front lines caring for these animals constantly until she can find them foster homes. Tuesday morning, Noni received a picture that was different from all of the rest and featured Sunny, a seven-week-old Chihuahua who was still wearing a knitted sweater from his previous owner. Back in 2014 in Louisville, Kentucky a thunderstorm raged outside of Tara King’s apartment complex. She luckily happened across a little white dog who clearly needed help. Besides being out in the storm alone, he only weighed four pounds and had a big wound on the side of his head. King took the dog inside, bathed him, and he slept with her that night. The next day, she took him to the shelter to see if he had a microchip, but he didn’t and there were no reports of a missing dog so King named him Winston and decided to keep him. Each one of us has his/her own unique definition of “life”. In the case of this drop-dead handsome Husky named Maksimus, life is simply chest rubs. Chest rubs are his only reason for living that the moment his human stops petting him… …he gets so impatient he’d nudge and lovingly bite the human until he gets what he wants, which is a whole lot more of chest rubs, of course! He would then give his human a look that says: “I become the monster you never wanna see when I get angry, you know that. You don’t wanna see me get hysterically mad, do you?” Maksimus wins.
