Going to the gym and eating your vegetables may be the secret to a long life, according to your family doctor, but Jesse Gallan, the oldest woman in Scotland, has other advice to achieving a long and healthy life: eating porridge and staying away from men.
“My secret to a long life is staying away from men. They’re just more trouble than they’re worth. I also make that I got plenty of exercise, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning, and have never gotten married,†she said.
Gallan celebrated her 109th birthday at a care home on January 2nd, with a piece of cake, of course. She was born in 1906 on a farm in Aberdeenshire, had five sisters and one brother, and left home at age 13 to become a milkmaid.
